mistressjinx: moles (moles)
Alrighty, gonna do snowflake again this year. I thought it was pretty fun last year.

Day 1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I had to go see what I wrote last year for this one, so I didn't repeat myself. But then again maybe that's a testament if I do repeat myself. I must admit I have a hard time rec'ing myself. I can't even say myself when people ask for podfic recs on twitter in my fandom for which I've produced something stupid like 70 podfics for. Anyway, here are fanworks:

  1. Podfic | Tiny Houses | Teen Wolf | Explicit To be honest, I will probably put this on my list every year. I will probably have it etched into my tombstone with a link. I wish we could pin our favorite fanworks to the top of the list on AO3 so that people will know that this is the project that I like the most, and the one that defines me as a creator, the thing I am most proud of. It's no longer my longest project, but it's the one I would like to be known for. Also, when I'm having a bad day I go and look at the kudos on this one and it makes my shitty day a whole lot less shitty.
  2. Fic | Mating Games Fics | Teen Wolf | All Explicit I sort of just touched on this on my year end wrap up post. But I totally went out of my comfort zone last year and wrote stuff for the Mating Games LJ challenge. And though, I don't consider myself a writer at all, I had a really good time doing it and don't think the stuff I wrote was all that awful. I was sort in love with the idea of doing a Teen Wolf fusion with one of my favorite Nick Cave songs, Where The Wild Roses Grow because I love that record and I love dark fic. So Probably out of the 6, I'm most in love with The Weeping Boy. I also podficced it. It's got some MCD in it, so I'd say most people stayed as far away from it as they could, but it's something totally underapprecated because of themes, and ridiculously romantic in a macabre sort of way. I love it a lot okay?
  3. Podfic | As Sweet As The Blood On Your Lips | Stoker / Luther crossover | Explicit I put this on the list because nobody knows it exists! I don't often podfic femslash, although I read it quite a bit and the pairing on this is about as rarepair as you can get. Alice Morgan/India Stoker. Both sociopaths. Both killers. Put them together and BAM insta-sexy! So I found this fic and got all kinds of excited. Got permission and read the shit out of it. AND what do you know. Practically nobody listened to it. HA! That's just the way it is. I still really love this one though. I'm so proud of it right down to the coverart and music I chose. I really wish people knew about both these characters so that they understood why it is so perfect.

Okay. Gonna go slink off and hide for a while now. xoxo

  1. Meta Podcast | Anonymous I NR was in a bit of a rut. I kept getting all of these anonymous messages telling me I sucked, or my accents sucked, or that I was trying to sound too sexy in my podfics, and wasn't. So I took a pretty long hiatus from recording to regain my wits. And this is what I made to get me through it. I felt like with it's posting and how it was received, all of my anxiety and bad feelings kind of just went out the window. I returned to recording podfics and more ACX projects. It was a lovely moment in my short fannish history, and I'm very proud of it.
  2. Podfic | Life's Not Fare | Teen Wolf | Explicit This was a pod-together I did with my fandom wifey [archiveofourown.org profile] reliand. We are both super into dark twisted shit, so we decided to do this rape fic together. The entire thing has sound effects through it, which took me ages to do, and is one of the works that nobody listens to because of the content tags, but is probably the work I'm proudest of. I saw this as my master class role. I performed the hell out of the thing. It was super emotional to do, acting out a rape like that. I think I did 3 takes of it, and by the end of the recording I was just emotionally wrecked from sobbing my guts out. I understand why people get freaked out by it, but to me it was a chance to push myself and just really go deep into that place. To show my range.
  3. Podfic | Tiny Houses | Teen Wolf | Explicit This is my longest, and newest, project. It took me a month to churn out. The end product was 11 hours, which I'm super proud of. Everything from the music, the sound effects, commentary was mapped out. I put a lot of my heart and soul into this one. It was such a great fic that I wanted to do it justice.

So I've never done any kind of journal challenge before. I'm not entirely sure why I want to do this. I rarely get comments, so I'm assuming people just kind of skip over my shit. But. I figure I'd spice up my content. Share some stuff about myself. Perhaps someone will stop in their infinite scroll and look at the thing I've shared. Perhaps not. *shrugs*

Day One: My Favorite Song

I've scoured my brain for the answer. I've looked at my iTunes play total for a clue. My current favorite song is constantly changing, which right now is: I Had Me A Girl by The Civil Wars. But...this is not my favorite song ever. So after a long battle of the ponder, I've figured it out.

Little Water Song
written by Nick Cave and performed by Ute Lemper

This song is told from the POV of a murdered woman. The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful. You feel a great empathy for the woman in the song. It's reminiscent of the Murder Ballads songs that Nick Cave wrote 4 years prior to writing this. He always writes these mini stories in just a few words that totally draw you in. She speaks of her natures grave and the little fishes, of being suffocated, of drowning, of the act of dying. The very last line is my favorite in the song. She sings of hate.

I wrote a paper in college on this song. It was my Freshman year, and we had to write about a song that spoke to us. I wrote the paper from the POV of the woman in the song. After presenting it and playing the song for the class, my professor pulled me out into the hallway and asked if I was suicidal. I think that says a lot about the song, and what emotions it hits on in just the small span of 3 minutes.

Lyrics:

Under here, you just take my breath away
Under here, the water flows over my head
I can hear the little fishes

Under here whispering your most terrible name
Under here, they've given me starfish for eyes
And your head is a big red balloon

Under here, your huge hand is heavy on my chest
Ah, and under here, Sir, your lovely voice retreats
And yes, you take my breath away

Look at my hair, as it waves and waves
Sir, under here, I have such pretty hair
Silver, it is, and filled with silver bubbles

Ah, and under here, my blood will be a cloud
And under here my dreams are made of water
And, Sir, you just take my breath away

For under here, my pretty breasts are piled high
With stones and I cannot breathe
And tiny little fishes enter me

Under here, I am made ready
And under here, I am washed clean
And I glow with the greatness of my hate for you
