DAY 12
In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. What are your hopes and dreams for fandom? Do you have any predictions about what the next five years holds for fandom?

I really have nada here. I was a fandom dabbler for years. This means that for a years all I did was fannishly obsess on stuff on my own, and occasionally read something on FF.net before I went to bed. I didn't ever post on any stories or engage other people in fannish conversations. I just sort of admired from afar. I didn't really even know what the word Fandom meant. It wasn't until I got laid off in April 2012, and had a gazillion hours of free time, that I even went searching for something to engross myself in. SOO that means I haven't been active long enough in it to know what the trends would be like.

I've seen trends in my particular fandoms, but I have no idea what that means in the long run for fandom as a whole. I think AO3 hit a million fanworks, right? So, I suppose that if it picks up more and more, then 5 years down the line there will be close to 3-5ish million fanworks available for consumption on that site, readily available for the masses. I see more and more new people popping up out of the woodwork so I think in a few years I can expect when people in my RL ask me about my hobbies, and I list Fandom, they wont look so dumbfounded as to what it is.

I get massively envious of the teens/young adults I meet in fandom that have been into this for years and have this outlet at such a young age. When I was a teen/ya, I didn't have anything like this. So I also predict that kids will be getting into it at a younger age and it will be more widely accepted?? Does that make sense? Also, with the acceptance of fandom, it will probably influence the acceptance/open-mindedness of our younger generations too.

I think a good question for me to ask is to the people that have been around the block for a while...What was fandom like 5 years ago, and how has it changed/evolved since then? Perhaps then I can better understand what to expect in the coming years. (Because I do plan on being around for it:))

DAY 13

In your own space, talk about setting yourself a fannish goal. Big or small, it doesn't matter.

This is a good one! I currently have a to-do list of podfics I am working on, and *hope* to have complete by the end of the year.
But a few goals inside of that are:
  • I'd like to surpass the production of 2013. (I have yet to write up my end of year wrap-up.) My total hours for 2013 was 61.6 hours or 74.4 hours if you include the ACX projects produced. So I'd like to come in at the 80-100 hour mark for 2014.
  • I'd like to produce more projects for ACX as well. I have 8 projects complete, 3 more in production and would love to get to the 25 mark by 2015.
  • I'd like to get better at photoshop to improve my coverart.
  • I'm awful at leaving feedback. I sometimes spend days trying to figure out how to answer comments I receive, so I'd like to work on improving that. Also, I was lucky enough to get 2 audio feedbacks this year, both from [archiveofourown.org profile] reena_jenkins, and I'd like to be more active in doing that for other podficcers since that was such a lovely feeling.
  • I have a fic I've written, and sometime in 2014 I'd like to finish editing that sucker and let it out into the world.
  • I'd like to be more active on my journal. This is something I've been working on for a few months now. Being more active with other people in fandom, do more collaborations and participate in more challenges, do more frequent rec lists (since the feedback has been good on those).
  • Be more on top of my bookmarks (thanks Maj!) and go through and organize my tags on the blog.
  • I'd like to actively control the amount of windows I have open. Sometimes it's obscene, and I promised myself I would stay on top of my reading this year. Not open more windows without reading and closing existing ones.
  • Record some of the lesser known fandom fics I have bookmarked. (Baseball RPF, Stoker, Luther).
  • Reach out/make more fandom friends. Go to a meet-up or Con. (I've never been to one)
  • Make (and maintain) a masterlist of my works for my journal and blog.
  • Lastly, it is my goal to give back a little more. I signed up as an audiofic archivist and a reccer on [community profile] podfic_love. I've also volunteered to help code a few comms for daily posts. I think I'd like to just feel like I was contributing more to other people's enjoyment and ease.
As a whole, it looks like a lot. But really I'd just like to set a goal of maintaining the the things on my list, and doing something each day to facilitate my fan lifestyle.
